Scripture
We receive the Bible as God's Word and seek to order our worship, teaching, and daily life by its truth.
Who We Are
Our Story
St Andrew's Presbyterian Church belongs to the long Presbyterian witness that took root in Ontario through families, ministers, elders, and congregations committed to Scripture, worship, and community life. In Hillsburgh and the surrounding countryside, church life has long been woven into the ordinary milestones of rural families: baptisms, weddings, funerals, Sunday worship, seasonal gatherings, and care in times of hardship.
Our congregation continues that story as a local expression of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. The national church has served Canadian communities since 1875, with roots in the Scottish Reformation and a pattern of congregational life guided by ministers, elders, and church courts. That structure gives local congregations a strong sense of accountability while keeping ministry close to the people and places they serve.
At St Andrew's, we value the inheritance of those who prepared the way before us, while also seeking to speak faithfully and clearly to the present generation. Our worship is reverent and welcoming. Our fellowship is personal and practical. Our life together is shaped by the conviction that Christ gathers people into a community where grace is received and shared.
We are a registered Canadian nonprofit congregation, CRA Registry ID 132323064RR0001, serving Hillsburgh, Erin Township, Centre Wellington, and nearby rural communities with steady Christian witness.
Our Beliefs
Our faith is centered on Jesus Christ and shaped by the witness of the Bible. In the Presbyterian tradition, we confess that Scripture is necessary, trustworthy, and sufficient for knowing God's saving grace in Christ. We affirm salvation by grace through faith, the sovereignty of God, the ministry of Word and Sacrament, and the calling of the church to worship, discipleship, and service.
We receive the Bible as God's Word and seek to order our worship, teaching, and daily life by its truth.
We trust in God's grace in Jesus Christ, not our own merit, as the foundation of forgiveness and new life.
We celebrate Baptism and the Lord's Supper as signs and seals of God's promises to his people.
We stand in continuity with historic Presbyterian teaching, including the Westminster Confession of Faith.
Our Values
God's Word is our ultimate authority and guide for faith and life.
Gathered praise, prayer, and preaching stand at the center of our common life.
We care for one another and seek the good of our neighbours.
We grow in faith through teaching, prayer, conversation, and service.
We put compassion into action in Hillsburgh and beyond.
Leadership
Presbyterian congregations are served through ordered leadership. The minister leads in preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and the sacraments. Elders share responsibility for spiritual oversight through the session, praying for the congregation and caring for its faithfulness. Deacons and ministry leaders help coordinate mercy, hospitality, and practical service.
This shared pattern keeps leadership rooted in prayer, accountability, and local knowledge. At St Andrew's, leadership is not a distant office but a ministry of presence, listening, encouragement, and wise stewardship of the congregation's common life.
